1. “First Impression Is the Last Impression” Rule for Cabin Crew

In the world of aviation, recruiters want to see a professional appearance as soon as you step in. If they can’t picture you in their airline’s uniform, your chance at the interview might be lost before it even starts.

2. Why They Fail in Cabin Crew’s Interview

It’s not just about the clothes; it’s about how you wear them.

Tattoos: Presence of tattoos and piercings that do not meet airline standards

Hairstyle: Improper haircut is also a most common reason for failure.

Lack of Confidence: Playing with your clothes indicates that you’re not comfortable in your work uniform.

Makeup : Some women use heavy makeup and some even does’t use no make-up.

Ignoring the Airline Brand: If you’re interviewing at Emirates, wear red lipstick. If it’s a low-cost airline, look more approachable and fresh.

Breath: bad breath can be a reason for failure.

Iron on clothes: Wrinkled clothes is also a reason

Poor Posture: Slouching makes even the most expensive suit look bad.

How to Groom?

3. Grooming for Men

The Suit: Go for a classic two-piece suit in darker colours. Make sure it fits well and is not too loose.

The Tie: Choose solid colours or simple patterns. Stay away from loud or cartoonish designs.

Face: Most international airlines prefer a clean-shaven look. If you have a beard, keep it very neat and tidy.

Hands: Keep your nails clean and neatly trimmed.

4. Grooming for Women

The Suit: Wear a well-fitted blazer with a knee-length skirt. Skirts are usually better than trousers. Go for colors like navy blue, black, or dark grey.

The Shirt: A crisp white or light pastel button-down is best. Avoid ruffles and deep necklines.

The Hair: The “Aviation Bun” is the way to go. Make sure there are no flyaways. Use hairspray or gel to keep it neat.

Makeup: Keep it professional but visible. Go for a “Classic Glam” look—red or berry lipstick that matches the airline’s brand, neat eyeliner, and some neutral eyeshadow. Avoid any glitter.

Hosiery: Always wear skin-tone stockings. No bare legs allowed.

Shoes: Closed-toe heels are a must, usually around 2 to 3 inches high. Stilettos and platforms are not acceptable.

5. Gromming Tips for Candidates

Hair

A candidate’s hair is the most obvious aspect of their personal grooming. It has to look “aerodynamic” and stay perfect for hours.

  • Bun Net: It is not just an elastic band. It is a fine-mesh hair net that matches your hair color. This is to ensure the bun remains perfectly round.

For Men: Hair has to be an inch away from the ears and the shirt collar. “Tapered” or “faded” haircuts are best. Avoid “wet look” hair gel. Use a matte pomade for a natural hold.

Skin & Face

Airlines want to know the condition of your skin under the harsh lighting of the cabin.

  • For ladies, the lipstick should match the airline’s corporate color.
  • If interviewing for Emirates, use “Blue-toned Red.” If interviewing for Indigo, use a soft pink or nude mauve
  • No lipstick marks on teeth; breath should be fresh.
  • Very well plucked/threaded the eyebrows. “Wild” hairs should not be present.
  • Posture Straight shoulders. Chin should be parallel to the floor

(For Men): Shave the day before the interview, not the night before. Five o’clock shadow or stubble is a sign of lack of discipline.

The Hands

Your hands will be checked as you will be required to pass out passports, meals, and safety presentations.

  • Acrylic nails should not be too long. This is not a professional look and can break off in the fire drills.
  • Use a non-greasy hand cream.
  • Wear your watch on the left hand

Clothing

Shoulder Fit: The seam of the blazer should hit exactly where the shoulder ends. If it goes below the shoulder, you look “swallowed” in the suit.

Skirt Length: The skirt should be one inch below the knee. When sitting down, the skirt will ride up. It should never be showing mid-thigh.

Physical Fitness Requirements

For Boys

  • Minimum required height is 170 CM (For Domestic)
  • Minimum required height is 172 cm (For International)
  • BMI should be in between 18 – 25

For Girls

  • Height should be not less than 155 CM (For Domestic)
  • I should be not less than 160 CM (For International)
  • BMI should be in between 18 – 22

6. Important Checklist: “One Night Before”

Iron: Steam your clothes before going to the interview

Shoes: Police your shoes, and always wear black and brown shoes only

Resume: Take 2-3 color print out of your resume before one day.

Hairstyle: Get a Lint roller and use it before going to the interview room.
